As young Christians, you need to decide and make up your mind which you believe more. Jesus, or this life? Which one do you respect more? Compare them, weigh them, and make up your mind.
There’s two sides, the flesh and the spirit. The flesh automatically believes this life. Which one is winning with you? Make up your mind, decide which one you believe more. That’s the start of walking out of faith. Which one do you trust? If you choose to trust Jesus, then you will be walking out of faith. If Jesus is winning in you, that is what trusting Him leads to automatically. “The righteous shall walk out of faith” (Heb. 10:38). There is no hope otherwise. Believing and faith are the only things that are going to help you. Your believing Jesus is going to be the life or death of you, it’s that important. It’s the beginning of denying yourself (deny the automatic, Lk 9:23).
You have to believe in this life somewhat, you can’t just get rid of it. How are you going to walk down the street, otherwise? You have to function in this life. There is a natural, and then there is a spiritual. Which one do you believe more; which one is heavier in you? That is the one that’s going to win. “The Lord weighs the spirit.” (Prov. 16:2) Believing this life and believing Jesus – you have to do both, but which one is leading you? Do you prefer this life, or Jesus leading you in everything? He leads you through your believing; so if you desire Him leading you, you must make up your mind to live accordingly.
Young people get tossed around by every wind of doctrine. It’s time to get serious about your future. Five years from now you will be different. What you believe and desire more, starting now, is what will determine that difference. If you decide, “I really believe Jesus more than this life” you can get serious about living your believing by the renewal of your mind (Rom 12:2). As a man thinks, so he is (Prov. 23:7). One of these two is going to take over and win, either this life or Christ. Which do you desire to win?
